Thai land measurement units: rai, ngan and square wah
Land in Thailand is measured in rai, ngan and square wah (wah squared, or tarang wah). Title deeds usually show the area in all three, for example “2-1-50”, which means 2 rai, 1 ngan and 50 square wah. The units fit together like this:
- 1 rai = 4 ngan = 400 square wah = 1,600 square metres
- 1 ngan = 100 square wah = 400 square metres
- 1 square wah = 4 square metres
Rai to acre, hectare and square feet conversion table
The following table converts Thai land units to metric and imperial units.

| 1 square wah | 4 | 43.06 | 0.001 | 0.0004 |
Going the other way:
- 1 acre = 2.53 rai (about 2 rai, 2 ngan and 12 square wah)
- 1 hectare = 6.25 rai
